Teaching

Authentic learning occurs through novel approaches to gathering, analyzing, and applying newly acquired knowledge. I aim for students to leave any course I teach with a better understanding and command of the course material and a broader perspective of leadership and management principles in higher education and student affairs. Promoting subject mastery through critical thinking and cultivating this broader perspective is requisite to the success of my students’ training to be the future leaders of higher education.  My classroom is dynamic and relevant to the nuances one encounters as a scholar and practitioner – my students and I are mutually responsible for the communal learning experience. The role of the teacher is a receptive leader; that is, one who displays confidence in their field but is also willing to learn from the students.

My teaching portfolio includes several courses in higher education and student affairs and a few general graduate education courses. These courses have been delivered in various formats: face-to-face, online (asynchronous and synchronous), and hybrid. Course evaluations range from very good to excellent.
