Research

My current and emerging research focuses on privilege and power issues and how they impact gender equity, racial equity, and access in higher education. My scholarship utilizes an intersectional and feminist framework that explores the confluences of race and gender through historical and contemporary educational contexts, emphasizing higher education. I operationalize my research through two interrelated foci – student and faculty diversity and organizational change/behavior. Specifically, my scholarship examines the continued disproportionality of women in academic leadership, the lived experiences of women leaders, the systemic marginalization occurring in leadership development programs, the experiences of minoritized students in higher education, and the role of mentorship in faculty diversity.

Future research endeavors will explore how higher education policies can influence the trajectories of individuals and institutions, with a particular emphasis on historically underserved students and faculty. I am also interested in the professional socialization of women leaders in higher education, specifically Black, intergenerational leaders, examining familial and cultural influences and the intersections of race, class, and gender on their work.
